Lawrence, the Bath-based specialist contractor is about to complete the construction of two 30m
diameter fuel storage tanks as part of a £10m contract by Defence Estates for USAF at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.

Steel plates have been welded together in a fan pattern at the bottom of the two steel tanks, which will eventually be part buried and encased in concrete. The Design and Construct, multi-disciplined contract is for the provision of the North East Loop Hydrant Fuel System which also encompasses the installation of a total of 7 km of stainless steel and carbon steel fuel pipelines, 2 multi-pump pumping stations, aircraft hydrant pits, loading and dispense systems and 5000 sq m of vehicle hard-standing.
New buildings comprise a filter house, a control building, a vehicle inspection building and a 320 sq m single-storey Petroleum Operations Building.
Also included are all electrical works, a major extension to the 11kv ring main, the construction of two 11kv sub-stations complete with step down transformers and LV pillars, control and instrumentation and the provision of two standby generators. Demolition of the existing fuelling installations and supply only of fuelling pantographs and a de-fuelling cart completes the scheme.
The twelve-month contract commenced on site in October 2003 with completion due in October 2004.
